Game 3 world series
Giancarlo Stanton was the lone Yankees runner on base. Stanton, whom Statcast ranks as the 19th-slowest player in all of baseball, broke toward third. And just as Dodgers left fielder Teoscar Hernández gathered the ball, Stanton stepped on third with Yankees coach Luis Rojas waving him home.
In Game 3 of the National League Championship Series from Citi Field in New York last week, Buehler leaned on his curveball to escape jams, holding the New York Mets scoreless through four innings to set up an 8-0 victory. He pitched differently, but at times resembled the frontline starter who powered the Dodgers’ rotation in Octobers past.
Maybe this one should be more like a half checkmark, but we can at least give the Yankees some credit for getting a few hits and runs from the bottom of the order and not relying entirely on Juan Soto and Giancarlo Stanton to lead the offense. Granted, Stanton did have 40 percent of their hits in this game, but Anthony Volpe had his first hit of the series (he struck out in his other three at-bats) and Alex Verdugo hit a two-run home run with two outs in the ninth. I mean, at least the Yankees weren’t shut out. That’s good. Right?
Game 2 world series
That image told the story of this World Series so far. The Dodgers have delivered. Judge and the Yankees are searching for answers. In a crucial Game 2, they recorded only four hits — three of which came in the ninth inning.
The Dodgers are keeping him off-balance with spin, chasing pitcher’s pitches and behind on heaters. After striking out three times in both Game 1 and Game 2, Judge is 6 for 40 (.150) this postseason. He has struck out 13 times in his past five games combined. Is it time to move him down in the order? I’m not sure that would solve much; the Yankees aren’t winning this series without Judge finding his way — fast. But, at this point, can it really hurt?

Soto’s homer was the Yankees’ only hit until the ninth, when he started a rally by singling off the wall against Blake Treinen. Giancarlo Stanton and Jazz Chisholm Jr. singled. Anthony Rizzo was hit by pitch, loading the bases and bringing the tying run into scoring position. But Treinen whiffed Anthony Volpe, and lefty Alex Vesia induced a first-pitch fly out from pinch-hitter Jose Trevino.
