With stocks and ETFs available at $0 commissions, eToro can be a good choice for those who prioritize a simple platform. There are “Research” and “News” tabs for most of the individual cryptocurrency, stock and ETF pages (these are only available to funded accounts). EToro investors often post content in hopes of building a revenue-generating following (see its Popular Investor program). Some of the posters are quite insightful, others less so, as you might expect.

In fact, the minimum deposit at eToro depends on the country of residence of the trader, and (sometimes) on the account type chosen. While it has a large user base of over 30 million and generally positive reviews, as with any investment platform, there are risks involved in trading and there are no guarantees you will be profitable. However, I am disappointed that the ProCharts mode is only available to higher-tier users. In addition, fully automated trading systems such as those supported on MetaTrader 4 or cTrader are not permitted on eToro, which will disappoint algorithmic traders. Trading in a currency other than USD, EUR and GBP may involve conversion fees based on your account denomination and live foreign exchange market rates. EToro was also an early adopter in cryptocurrency trading, offering one of the largest arrays of crypto tokens – I can currently access 95 from my dashboard, though this may vary by location.

Despite its beginner-friendly feel, eToro hasn’t compromised on technical analysis features. Importantly, the broker also regularly enhances the platform and I’ve summarized some of the latest features below. For crypto transactions, eToro imposes a competitive flat 1% fee, added to the market bid/ask price.

As you may know, the market maker trade execution model comes with many benefits, including lightning-fast trade execution, tight spreads, and zero commissions. In the UK, you can invest in real ETFs by opening a buy (long) and non-leveraged position. However, you can buy a leveraged position if you are trading ETF CFDs. Here is a breakdown of those two categories to know whether eToro really charges competitive trading fees. In the EU, it is licensed and regulated by the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC), which is a Tier 2 regulator, or less stringent, for example, than the ASIC, FCA, FINRA, or CFTC.

Instead of quoting a contract for 100 shares at, say, $1.15, eToro presents a contract value of $115.00 a contract. EToro’s website features an excellent educational section covering the general principles of financial markets and the nuances of working with the platform. The news feed resembles a Twitter stream with thematic posts from eToro users and analysts, adding a social networking aspect to trading. The eToro app for Android and iOS fully replicates the capabilities of the personal account. It offers account funding and withdrawal, trading and candlestick charts, copy trading, and communication with other participants.

Administration fees

Although US traders are limited to the states, you can copy up to 100 other users simultaneously. The minimum amount to copy another trader is $200, but the maximum amount is $500,000. US-based investors can purchase stocks, ETFs, options, and cryptocurrencies on eToro USA. When users enroll in CopyTrader, they can duplicate the crypto trading strategies of leading traders, termed Popular Investors. Basic trading features count as one factor in the overall and beginner rankings. Other ranking factors include platform availability, customer service, educational resources, security and storage, staking and rewards, to name a few.
